Ada College is opening it’s new facility to students for the 2023 academic year. Designed by LSI Architects, and refurbished by Wates Smartspace, the National College for Digital Skills has moved into new premises on Sutherland St in Pimlico, London. Named after Ada Lovelace, a 19th century computer programmer, the College works to educate and empower the next generation of digital talent with a particular focus on women and individuals from low-income backgrounds. The Pimlico campus building is spread over 5 floors and includes a cafe, sports hall, games room and a roof terrace with aspirational views over central London. The building’s previous engineering workshops have been converted into IT suites for the college’s core computing qualifications, and lecture theatres have replaces traditional classrooms. ADA College – Digital Learning Campus

Building the future of digital education

  • Client Wates Group Ltd

  • Location Greater London

  • Sector Education

Services

  • Building services engineering

ADA College consolidated its London campuses into a single, future-ready building near Victoria Station, transforming an existing further education facility into a modern home for digital learning.

Funded by the Department for Education and delivered by Wates Group, the project remodelled the acquired building to provide new classrooms, an auditorium/sports hall and improved staff facilities.

Engineering solutions in a constrained urban site

Appointed to deliver building services engineering, we supported the bid process and developed the M&E design through RIBA Stage 4, continuing with construction stage input. Our first job was a full review of the existing systems, identifying what could be retained, adapted or replaced to make the most of the £5 million budget.

The site came with tight constraints. New ventilation and air handling units were needed for higher occupancy, and façade openings had to be formed with just 1.2 metres of clearance from the Victoria Line station. Working closely with Wates and National Rail, we planned each step carefully so work stayed safe, compliant and practical in a live city setting.

Collaboration continued through detailed design and installation with the architect and M&E subcontractor, Gloucester S Worx, ensuring buildable solutions that worked smoothly on site.

Delivering a future-ready learning environment

The refurbishment introduces modern, efficient building services that improve ventilation, cooling and everyday comfort. Legacy system issues were resolved, creating a stable and dependable environment from the start.

Teaching spaces, performance areas and staff facilities now sit within a cohesive campus that supports digital education at scale. The building performs efficiently while staying adaptable for future growth.

Enabling the next generation of tech talent

By consolidating its campuses into one well-serviced location, ADA College now works from a single, coherent base near Victoria Station. The upgraded infrastructure supports high-quality teaching in a comfortable, resilient setting.

The result is a practical, well-engineered environment that lets the College focus on what matters most –preparing students for careers in the digital industries.
