ESG and Net Zero Carbon

Sustainability now occupies a central place in most decisions in the built environment. It affects funding, planning, risk and long-term performance. Carbon expectations are rising and the evidence behind them matters. Projects must be informed by a clear understanding of what is relevant, what makes a material difference, and what is achievable.

Practical thinking, backed by technical rigour

Our sustainability specialists offer a standalone service, as well as supporting colleagues as part of interdisciplinary project teams. We contribute to schemes of every scale, from early strategy through to detailed modelling, certification and site delivery. Our focus is always on advice that is technically robust and grounded in how projects are actually delivered.

Sustainability decisions have cost and programme implications. That’s why we don’t treat it as a parallel workstream. It sits alongside design, engineering and cost management from the outset, to ensure environmental ambitions are tested properly and delivered in practice. We’re deliberate in how we work – testing assumptions, modelling options and setting out the implications clearly so your decisions can be made with confidence.

  • Sustainable design and masterplanning

The greatest opportunity to influence environmental performance is at concept stage. We contribute to sustainability briefs, masterplanning strategies and early option development, working alongside designers and engineers to shape schemes from the ground up.

We also prepare sustainable procurement plans and waste management strategies, ensuring environmental objectives sit alongside buildability, cost and programme. During delivery, we provide sustainability site support, including BREEAM AP services, so commitments made at design stage are carried through in practice.

  • Climate risk and environmental performance

Buildings must respond to future climate conditions as well as current standards. We undertake climate change risk assessments, overheating analysis and daylight modelling to test resilience, comfort and long-term performance.

Our work includes water efficiency assessments, façade and massing studies, Passivhaus consultancy and detailed performance modelling. By interrogating fabric performance and energy demand, and putting the emphasis on measurable outcomes, we help reduce operational risk and avoid reactive redesign.

  • Decarbonisation and Net Zero

We support the definition of credible decarbonisation pathways at both building and portfolio scale. Our work includes whole-life carbon assessments, embodied carbon analysis and operational energy modelling to understand where impact genuinely sits.

Sequencing and prioritisation are central to how we wotrk, identifying what should happen first, what will have the greatest effect and what is financially viable. Alongside strategic planning, we undertake low- and zero-carbon feasibility studies and retrofit strategies, including PAS 2035 services, ensuring options are tested properly, implications are set out clearly and carbon targets are grounded in delivery.

  • Certification and sustainability frameworks

Certification schemes and performance standards add the greatest value when embedded early. We guide projects through BREEAM, WELL, NABERS, DREAM and SKA, ensuring requirements inform design development rather than it being constrained.

We also prepare sustainability appraisals, energy and sustainability statements, circular economy statements and EIA climate change chapters. Our role is to align technical evidence, planning strategy and programme so submissions are coherent, robust and defensible.

  • Operational performance and ESG strategies

Environmental performance does not end at completion. We undertake post-occupancy evaluations and operational performance reviews to understand how buildings function in use and where improvements can be made.

For organisations taking a broader view, we develop bespoke ESG and sustainability strategies and provide targeted training. Our advice connects environmental performance with governance, reporting and long-term asset value, ensuring commitments are credible, measurable and aligned with organisational priorities.
