Project and programme delivery
King’s College School needed a larger, more efficient dining hall to support growing pupil numbers while keeping daily operations running smoothly in a historic, live school environment.
Appointed as project managers, we guided delivery of the £4 million scheme from planning through to completion, maintaining safe and uninterrupted school life throughout.
Managing complexity with care
A largely underused area at the rear of the main building was identified for redevelopment. After navigating planning and heritage considerations, we managed demolition of the former changing facilities to create space for a new dining hall and refurbished reception and office areas.
Working within a live school environment required detailed coordination and clear, simple phasing. A carefully shaped logistics plan ensured full segregation between pupils and contractors, supported by a dedicated site compound and strict safeguarding and DBS compliance.
We structured the programme so early enabling works – including a gas mains diversion and the most disruptive demolition – were completed before the school year began. Once term started, works were phased to keep the kitchen operating at all times, avoiding temporary facilities and keeping mealtimes running as normal.
Clear, regular communication with the school team underpinned every stage, ensuring the programme matched the rhythm of the academic year.
Delivering space and function
The new 150+ capacity dining hall and upgraded front-of-house areas were completed on budget and ready for the 2025/2026 academic year. The completion date remained fixed throughout, giving the school community welcome certainty. The improved facilities enhance circulation, capacity and everyday efficiency, supporting both current needs and future growth.
Supporting school life, every day
This project creates a more functional and welcoming heart to the school. By delivering modern, efficient space within an established setting, we’ve helped King’s strengthen daily routines without disruption. The result is a practical, high-quality facility designed to serve pupils and staff for years to come.
