Cost management
For its 90th anniversary, the Mayflower Theatre invested £5 million to upgrade comfort, accessibility and the visitor experience across its Grade II listed art deco building.
We were appointed for our cost management expertise.
Expert-led cost management
After tender returns, we led a value engineering process that kept the project on budget without losing the theatre’s character.
Our team managed contract preparation, cost planning and financial control, making sure each part of the renovation was clear, practical and properly costed. Given the building’s listed status, we worked closely with consultants and contractors to balance heritage sensitivities with much-needed modern upgrades.
The works included restoring the auditorium’s art deco interior, installing new seating, upgrading lighting, modifying the orchestra pit and adding a side extension to improve access and visitor flow. Thorough surveys and open collaboration helped identify and reduce risks before construction began.
On-time delivery with heritage preserved
The Mayflower Theatre reopened after just 12 weeks. Seating is now more comfortable, lighting is improved and access is easier for all visitors, while the theatre’s historic character stays firmly in place. The project was delivered on time and within budget, keeping disruption low for a busy performance schedule.
Revitalising a cultural hub for future generations
The renovation strengthens the theatre’s role as a cultural landmark, improves the experience for audiences and supports the region’s arts community for years to come.
