Lighting design

Lighting design shapes the way buildings perform. It influences wellbeing, productivity, safety and identity. We design lighting that works beautifully in practice – technically robust, environmentally responsible and grounded in how spaces are actually used.

Lighting that performs

Lighting affects more than atmosphere. It influences planning consent, energy performance, operational cost and long-term asset value. Our team balances creative ambition with technical certainty, ensuring every scheme is compliant, deliverable and commercially sound.

We work closely with architects, urban designers, planners, sustainability consultants and engineers to resolve complexity early. The result is integrated lighting strategies that reduce risk, strengthen identity and perform over the life of the building.

  • Daylight design

Daylight carries architectural opportunity and planning risk in equal measure. Managed well, it enhances wellbeing and reduces energy demand. Managed poorly, it leads to glare, overheating and consent challenges.

Through climate-based modelling, BR209 assessments and detailed sunlight and overshadowing analysis, we provide clear, evidence-led insight at the right stage of design. Gallery and museum daylight strategies protect sensitive collections, while specialist glare analysis resolves issues in highly glazed façades and complex environments such as swimming pools. Health and wellbeing assessments ensure natural light supports occupants as well as compliance.

By working alongside planners, sustainability consultants and engineers, we help clients secure consent, avoid redesign and deliver buildings that perform as intended.

  • Architectural lighting

Lighting reinforces architectural intent. We shape a clear narrative of light, shadow and contrast that strengthens identity without overpowering the architecture. From RIBA Stage 0 through to Stage 7, we integrate landscape, façade, exterior and interior lighting into the wider design and engineering strategy.

Lighting control systems are developed in parallel with building services, ensuring efficiency, adaptability and long-term operational clarity. Close coordination with cost and sustainability teams keeps schemes aligned with budget, energy targets and maintenance requirements.

  • Entertainment lighting

Performance environments demand imagination supported by infrastructure. We design stage, brand and sculptural lighting schemes that elevate experience while remaining robust and manageable. Media and interactive lighting controls are integrated with architectural and user systems to create adaptable environments capable of supporting evolving programmes.

Working alongside theatre consultants, acoustic specialists and engineers, we resolve technical complexity early – reducing installation risk and ensuring venues remain flexible long after opening night.

  • Dark sky design

External lighting extends beyond site boundaries. It affects biodiversity, community perception and environmental compliance. We design responsible lighting strategies that minimise light pollution while maintaining safety, security and vibrancy. Our work includes light pollution assessments and calculations in accordance with ILP GN01 guidance, Dark Sky International feasibility studies and applications, technical advice notes, quality measurements and GIS-led survey data collection.

In collaboration with urban designers, ecologists and sustainability specialists, we help clients create distinctive places that respect their surroundings – balancing commercial ambition with environmental responsibility.
