Following fire damage at Wast Hills Training Ground – now the Knighthead Training and Academy Grounds – Birmingham City FC began a £4.5 million redevelopment to upgrade facilities and secure Category 1 academy status.

We provided project management, building surveying, cost management, mechanical and electrical engineering, geospatial services and fire engineering consultancy.

Interdisciplinary expertise in action

Our team worked closely with staff on site, listening to what each group needed and maintaining the project's momentum. We managed specialist contractors, designing, procuring and installing tailored solutions, and ran focused workshops to keep everyone headed in the same direction.

Achieving the infrastructure needed for Category 1 status was a major challenge. It called for clear planning, quick decisions and practical problem solving – the kind that works in the real world.

A high-performance facility

We guided the project from early planning through to handover. The upgraded training ground is fully integrated and ready to support Birmingham City FC’s long‑term plans. We assessed contractor costs, made clear recommendations and kept quality high so every element met the Club’s expectations.

Ridge provided numerous services while working at our Knighthead Performance Centre, all of which contributed to the successful delivery of multiple projects for our teams and stakeholders. They were proactive in coordinating the facility’s varied requirements and ensured that milestones were met efficiently and to the highest standard.
