Plymouth City Council is reshaping its city centre through major and heritage projects, creating greener, safer and more accessible public spaces while respecting its post-war civic identity.

We are delivering civil and structural engineering across multiple city centre sites.

Smart design for a complex urban setting

At Armada Way, work is underway. We’re delivering a Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) woven into new planting to boost flood resilience, biodiversity and natural character across this kilometre-long urban park. Key features include rain gardens, a water rill, reed beds, retaining wall solutions, new tree planting with smart irrigation, seating areas, a play village and wider public realm improvements. Site works have needed careful navigation of buried utilities, ground voids and post-war ground conditions.

Completed schemes at Old Town Street and New George Street have improved pedestrian routes through the shopping area with new paving, seating, a public events space and SuDS. Our work also addressed legacy issues such as outdated public spaces and uneven pavements to improve accessibility.

At Civic Square, now complete, we supported the restoration of the Grade II listed park and garden. Works included new granite paving, improved street lighting, wider footpaths, new planting and restored heritage features as part of the High Street Heritage Action Zone.

Alongside these public realm projects, we’ve supported refurbishment works at the Grade II listed Guildhall, carried out structural inspections and repairs on key car parks, and provided technical advice on solar energy opportunities across the Council’s estate.

Progressive infrastructure, rooted in place

These projects are already reshaping Plymouth’s city centre, introducing sustainable infrastructure, safer routes and more inclusive design.

Building a greener, more connected Plymouth

Our partnership with Plymouth City Council is laying the foundations for a greener, more connected future. Together, we’re creating civic spaces that serve the needs of today’s communities – and those of generations to come.

This is an exciting opportunity for those who live, work or own a business in Plymouth, to reclaim, reinvigorate and renew, creating a space that brings life back to the heart of the city.
