Liverpool’s new SEN primary school will bring four oversubscribed schools together under one roof, creating a safe, accessible home for learning and care.

The goal: a space where learning, therapy and play come together in surroundings designed to help children thrive.

Interdisciplinary by design

Appointed to deliver interdisciplinary services through to RIBA Stage 3 and planning submission, we are supporting the project across architecture, MEP, civil and structural engineering, cost management, transport planning, fire consultancy, health and safety, project management, sustainability and town and country planning.

Planning approval was secured in January 2026, giving the school a clear path into its next phase.

The 63,000 ft² single storey school is designed to be fully accessible and Net Zero in operation. Outdoor spaces play a central role, shaped with landscape architects to create sensory and forested areas that encourage calm, play and learning beyond the classroom.

Inside, 31 accessible classrooms, multisensory rooms and two hydrotherapy pools create tailored learning and therapeutic environments. A public facing café and community space will help the school build stronger connections with the wider neighbourhood.

A space to learn, grow and thrive

Princes SEN Primary School will bring together 250 places on a six‑acre site, providing a purpose‑built home for high‑quality SEN education. Designed around the needs of pupils, families and staff, the scheme targets BREEAM Very Good and will be fully Net Zero in operation, supporting the school for generations.

A legacy for Liverpool

Princes SEN Primary will be more than a school. It will act as a centre of inclusion, support and aspiration for Liverpool. By combining specialist education with sustainable design, it creates a place where pupils can thrive while strengthening ties with the local community.

This project demanded expertise from various disciplines, and the team rose to the challenge with both remarkable collaboration and focus. Ridge brought diverse requirements together and transformed them into a successful solution. A perfect example of dedication and excellence throughout.
