Fergal is a chartered structural engineer with almost 30 years' experience in the design and assessment of structures across commercial, industrial, educational, leisure, science and residential sectors. He has broad expertise in steel, timber, concrete and masonry structures, with particular focus on higher education, science buildings and refurbishment. Fergal is recognised as a leading voice in sustainable structural design, with multiple publications advancing carbon footprinting methodology for structures. He holds an engineering doctorate in the fire resistance of structural steelwork and has contributed to numerous industry technical and code committees. Fergal has also been involved in expert witness work throughout his career, latterly acting as lead expert. He is known for combining rigorous technical depth with a collaborative, considered approach to complex structural challenges. Fergal is a Fellow of the Institution of Structural engineers (FIStructE) and holds a doctorate in civil engineering.
